LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood is poised to be named Punjab’s new governor.

Former communications minister and PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira has dropped his candidacy for the Punjab governorship, according to sources, and Ahmed Mehmood is the hot favourite.

Kaira claimed in his statement that he wanted to run in the next elections, something he would be unable to do after being sworn in as governor.
