Asim al-Hakim, the Imam of the Jeddah Mosque in Saudi Arabia, has determined that revenues from YouTube are haram.
On Twitter, Abdul Maqtadir questioned Asim al-Hakim if getting money via YouTube is halal or haram. As a result, the scholar Asim al-Hakim stated that it is haram.
In his statement, Asim al-Hakim did not elaborate on the prohibited status of YouTube revenues. However, a statement he issued four years ago on his YouTube account is still online. He added in that comment that becoming a YouTuber has become a crucial vocation for young people in today’s culture.
Here’s what he had to say:
Earning money on YouTube is not fundamentally banned from an Islamic standpoint, but it is dependent on the material that the YouTuber publishes. If a YouTuber uploads haram material (such as music, women, indecent talks, profanity, and immorality), the cash earned from it is haram.
It should be mentioned that Asim al-Hakim conducts Friday prayers at the Jeddah Mosque and has featured as a host and guest on a number of television shows. He has also given talks at institutions around Asia and Europe.
