BALAKOT: As a result of the monsoon rains, the Balakot Tehsil in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has sustained considerable damage, with more than 200 connection roads and nearly 50 dwellings in ruins.
The disaster has seriously impacted locals’ livelihoods, raising worries about the absence of proper restoration measures.
Sardar Liaqat Kisana, the Tehsil Nazim of Balakot, expressed his dissatisfaction with the situation, pointing out the apparent indifference of 15 government agencies in the reconstruction effort.
A critical conference of all relevant agencies has been arranged for August 1 to address the alarming situation, he continued.
Kisana requested the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s urgent attention in order to allow the issue of essential orders to the participating departments. He emphasized that if these agencies immediately begin restoration work, the impact of the disaster might be considerably mitigated.
He stated that a year-long prohibition on local government financing has added to the difficulties.
