The Punjab government’s appeal against the cancellation of Aliya Hamza and Shehryar Afridi’s bail in the May 9 cases will be heard by the Apex Court.
Hearings on petitions against the reinstatement of the PTI founder’s bail and the revocation of his physical remand in relation to the May 9 riots have been scheduled by the Supreme Court. The case will be heard on February 27 by a three-member court led by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi. Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Shafi Siddiqui are also on the bench.
The same day has also been set aside for the hearing of the Punjab government’s pleas to revoke the bail that was given to other suspects in the May 9 events. The Punjab administration had already petitioned the court to cancel the bail that had been given to many riot-related suspects. The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing on May 9 to consider the Punjab Government’s arguments against the cancellation of PTI leaders Aliya Hamza and Shehryar Afridi’s bail.
The hearing is scheduled on February 28 and will be presided over by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and a three-member bench. The two members of the bench will be Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Shafi Siddiqui. The Punjab government has petitioned the Supreme Court to revoke PTI leaders’ bail.
Sheikh Rasheed’s acquittal in GHQ attack charges will also be heard by a three-member SC panel because his petitions have previously been denied by the trial and high courts.
