In July 2023, Pakistan’s imports of mobile phones totaled a staggering Rs. 19 billion, according to figures made public by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The imports in July 2023 were 24 percent greater than the 15.356 billion rupees in imports that were recorded in June 2023, according PBS statistics.
Imports rose by approximately 125 percent in July 2022 compared to imports of Rs. 6.542 billion in the same month of the previous fiscal year (FY24), which was a considerable rise.
The imports in July 2023 totaled $68.135 million in dollars, an increase of 75% over July 2022 and 27% over June 2023.
It is important to note that in order to curb the outflow of dollars, which led to fewer imports, the government imposed tight import restrictions last year.
The import limitations assisted Pakistan in reducing its trade deficit from $48.354 billion in the fiscal year 2022–2023 (FY23) to $27.547 billion in FY23, a reduction of 43.03 percent. Over the course of the time, imports fell by 31%, from $80.136 billion in FY22 to $55.291 billion in FY23.
