Ottawa: Canada’s intelligence service has warned that China and India would probably try to sabotage the next elections, and that Russia and Pakistan might potentially be a concern.

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) is prepared for attempts to influence the vote on April 28, the deputy director of operations warned on Tuesday. In particular, Ottawa’s ties with China and India have been tense.

Such nations are increasingly employing artificial intelligence (AI) to sway elections worldwide, Vanessa Lloyd said during a press briefing.

According to her, China is “very likely to try to sabotage Canada’s democratic process in this current election by using AI-enabled tools.”

She added that Russia and Pakistan may also try to meddle, and that India has the “intent and capability” to do the same.

According to the intelligence head, “it’s frequently very difficult to establish a direct link between foreign interference activities and election results.” “However, threat activities have the potential to undermine public confidence in the integrity of Canada’s democratic institutions and processes.”
