LONDON (Reuters) – Shonda Rhimes, a TV producer and writer from the United States, Pat McGrath, a British make-up artist, and Lena Mahfouf, a French blogger, are being honoured with Barbie dolls in their likeness as part of a celebration of female company entrepreneurs.

Mattel’s latest Barbie role models line-up honours women from all over the world, including Sonia Peronaci, founder of the Italian cuisine website “GialloZafferano,” and German digital entrepreneur Tijen Onaran.

Rhimes, whose Shondaland Media firm is responsible for the smash Netflix programmes “Bridgerton” and “Inventing Anna,” took to Instagram to share a photo of a doll from the collection in honour of International Women’s Day.

“I’ve got my own Barbie! “I’m honoured to be among the 12 incredible women who are all breaking limits in their own fields,” said Rhimes, who is also known for the medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy” and the political series “Scandal.” “On Thursday, said on Instagram.

Other honorees include Pat McGrath, a staple backstage at fashion week events and the founder of Pat McGrath Labs, and 24-year-old Mahfouf, an Algerian-born social media star.

“It’s a great honour and something very remarkable since when I was small, we only had… a few Barbie models and they all looked sort of the same – blonde, tall with straight hair – and I didn’t feel represented by that,” Mahfouf added. “So now that I have my own Barbie with curly hair and darker complexion, I’m overjoyed.”

Mattel announced that its worldwide Barbie Dream Gap initiative would collaborate with the humanitarian organisation Inspiring Girls International to give seminars and guidance to local schools in various nations.

“It is critical for girls to have role models because you can’t genuinely dream of becoming anything if you haven’t seen it,” said Miriam Gonzalez Durantez, founder of Inspiring Girls International. “Having that visibility is therefore critical for girls.”
