Samsung intends to unveil its first tri-fold smartphone in the second half of 2025, following Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate, which debuted in September of last year.
According to South Korean media, Samsung’s first output would be restricted to less than 300,000 units due to the complexity of the manufacturing process. Depending on demand, production capacity may expand in the future.
The next tri-fold smartphone is believed to be the most costly foldable in Samsung’s portfolio. Unlike Huawei’s Mate XT, which leaves some of the screen exposed when folded, Samsung’s design completely protects the screen when not in use, considerably increasing longevity.
The gadget will also include a flexible folding mechanism that will allow users to adjust the size of the display. When unfurled to the left, the screen will be 10.5 inches. Further unfolding to the right will increase the display size to 12.4 inches, providing a tablet-like experience.
Samsung Display will supply the displays for this cutting-edge gadget, guaranteeing that they are compatible with its revolutionary design. However, the smartphone will not incorporate an under-display camera, implying that durability will take precedence over other functions.
Although no official launch date has been announced, details have surfaced from insider sources. More details may be revealed with the debut of Samsung’s planned Z series foldable smartphones later this year.
