Dubai (ICC) – Thailand easily defeated Bhutan’s 83 All Out in their chase to start the fifth day of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier B, setting up a winner-take-all match against Malaysia on Tuesday.
The competition’s winner will go to the Asia Regional Final, which will be held in Nepal in November. In the afternoon game, Chen Zhuoyue’s 4-16 helped China defeat eventually winless Myanmar for their first and only victory of the competition.
Bhutan and Thailand
Tenjin Rabgey and Suprit Pradhan’s opening pair let Thailand down after they won the toss and decided to bowl first. In the fourth over, Rabgey drove Nopphon Senamontree through the off side to get his maiden boundary. He then repeated the move against Chalermwong Chatphaisan.
However, Rabgey was unable to continue and was caught for 22 after hitting a full toss from Robert Raina straight to Sorawat Desungnoen.
Senamontree retaliated by taking the wickets of Namgay Thinley and Suprit Pradhan, the latter of whom was bowled by the left-arm spinner. Gakul Kumar Ghalley misjudged a sweep shot and was bowled by Robert Raina, giving Sarawut Maliwan his maiden wicket. Robert Raina then doubled his wicket total by having Kishen Ghalley caught behind in the following over.
From 36 for no loss in the seventh over to 45 for five in the eleventh, Bhutan had lost ground. They were unable to bounce back from these blows, and in the 19th over, they were declared out for 83.
Thailand’s pursuit had a less than perfect beginning. On Tashi Phuntsho’s first delivery of the innings, Satarut Rungrueang lost balance and was stumped.
However, after the ball, Bhutan lost track of it, letting Desungnoen take off. Tenzin Wangchuk was pushed down the field for four off a no-ball by the right-hander, who then slammed the free hit that followed over the leg side boundary.
The score had risen to 49 when Suprit Pradhan dismissed him for 27 in the fourth over. The remaining runs were easily scored by Akshaykumar Yadav and Narawit Nuntarach, who finished undefeated on 31 and 15, respectively.
Yadav’s controlled knock earned him the Player-of-the-Match honor.
Myanmar vs. China
China’s choice to bowl first has already proven successful. In the tenth over, Luo Shilin dismissed the opposition’s captain for 4, bringing Myanmar to 30 for 4.
Ye Naing Tun made an effort to regain control by slog-sweeping Shilin for six. However, he and his partner Swann Htet Ko Ko were both caught off the bowling of Zhuoyue, who would eventually win the match.
To their credit, Myanmar was able to complete all of their overs, scoring 77 runs.
Myanmar got off to a promising start thanks to Paing Danu, who first trapped Wei Guolei in front before Xie Kunkun’s wood was disturbed, limiting China to 13 for two in the fifth over.
However, Zhuang Zelin and Wang Liuyang worked together for 49 runs, which helped their team get to safety. China sailed home with over three overs to spare despite losing three wickets quickly toward the conclusion of their pursuit.
