INDIA (Web Desk) – Balakrishnan Palayi, an Indian from Kasaragod, claims to have eaten just coconut for the last 28 years to manage his acid reflux illness (GERD).
Consider eating just one item for the next two decades. As a gourmet with so many delectable goodies available, the idea of limiting one’s diet to a single cuisine for a month, much alone 28 years, seems practically impossible, yet one Indian man believes that it has kept him healthy and active. Balakrishnan Palayi, a resident of Kasaragod’s Chandera, was diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a condition that led him to lose all of his strength to the point that he could not move. As part of his therapy, he began eating coconut, and he felt so much better that he quickly determined that was the only thing he would consume from then on.
“Minerals found in coconut include calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium. This helped him restore his strength, and he is again fit and well. Now he’s on a strict coconut-only diet,” Shenaz, a vlogger and influencer, stated during an interview with Balakrishnan.
Mr. Balakrishnan used to play football for the local club. Doctors diagnosed him with gastroesophageal reflux illness when he was 35 years old. He vomited every time he ate because the food was forced back from his stomach into his oesophagus. He tried other diets, but coconut and coconut water were the only things that helped him feel better, so he’s been eating them for the last 28 years.
“I consume coconuts on a daily basis. My family also began farming coconuts. “I’ve been living like this for the last 24 years,” Mr. Balakrishnan said.
Balakrishnan Palayi, 64, is in better health than most individuals his age. He works on the family farm, swims and exercises daily, and is in good health.
Balakrishnan’s coconut diet was first mentioned in a New Indian Express piece in 2019, but his name and odd diet have since gone viral online. Notwithstanding his success, Dr. Tushar Tayal said that his condition is unusual and that he does not advocate the coconut diet to everybody.
