LAHORE (Web Desk) – According to its embassy in Islamabad, Japan has announced its desire to provide Pakistan with a “grant assistance” of $38.9 million as part of the country’s supplementary budget to aid the flood victims.

Huge floods struck Pakistan in August of this year, leaving over one million people homeless and resulting in roughly 1,700 fatalities while the whole world watched in despair.

Tokyo will support the affected population in various social and economic dimensions in partnership with WHO, UNFPA, FAO, UNDP, UNICEF, WFP, UNWOMEN, UNHCR, and IPPF in Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Punjab provinces, as well as the IPPF in Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh provinces, according to a statement about the projects, which will start in January 2023

According to the statement, potential help might be provided in the areas of “emergency medical assistance, food distribution, farm and livestock restoration, livelihood recreation, and gender-based violence risk reduction and response.”

It was highlighted that “the unprecedented levels of flooding have caused a complex humanitarian crisis” in addition to increased health risks, food shortages, insecure livelihoods, and increased vulnerability to gender-based violence.

The Japanese government “will also provide assistance through JICA for flood recovery in health, agriculture, and education, amounting to $4.7 million.”
